Mission
I am writing this site in order to help my patients and women around the globe increase their understanding of and make informed decisions about the treatment of uterine fibroids. There is a bewildering amount of information and misinformation about fibroids. Much is written with good intentions but there is also much written for the purpose of furthering a commercial enterprise. Here I am presenting a background of basic information on fibroids, and information to help women make informed choices.
I frequently attempt to answer questions in women’s forums, but it is impossible to make individual recommendations without doing a personal evaluation. In order to help women understand what choices are available, many of my patients have kindly allowed me to post their stories, case histories, and photographs so the reader can see how we approach various problems with uterine fibroids. As choices involve personal feelings as well as science, women with similar problems may choose different solutions. Hopefully the reader will obtain a better understanding of the decision making process.
As medical knowledge is constantly changing, in addition to case studies I also plan to summarize new developments in the treatment of fibroids from peer-reviewed medical journals and other reputable sources. Of course I’m not afraid to add my personal comments. And if you would like an individual consultation I am always happy to see new patients.
Information on this site
Information on this site is the opinion of Paul Indman, M.D. It is based on years of training, medical journals, collaboration with colleagues, and research done by myself and others. I make every effort to differentiate what is accepted medical knowledge and personal opinions. I will make specific citations for journal articles and other sources of information. Let me again emphasize that I can not make specific recommendations for any given situation without a personal evaluation.
Funding
I do not receive any outside funding for this site. This site is funded by my private medical practice, Paul D. Indman, M.D., APC.
Confilict of interest
I am not selling any products nor am I involved with any companies that would represent a conflict of interest. I make a living practicing medicine and surgery, with a strong emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of fibroids and abnormal uterine bleeding. The private practice of medicine represents an inherent conflict of interest. Nevertheless, I always consider what is best for the individual patient and put that ahead of any personal gain. I have been an outspoken critic of “cosmetic” procedures whose main purpose is to further a physician’s economic interests (please see list of publications). I make every effort to put my patient’s interests ahead of any other interests.
